Gary Whitta will no longer be a writer on the stand alone Star Wars movie. Whitta was working with Gareth Edwards, the film maker behind last years Godzilla. It is unclear what project Whitta will be working on next but sources have said that it will be could Starlight Fox’s adaptation of Mark Millar sci-fi comic book is on the docket.
This is not the first time a writer has stepped off a Star Wars project after doing initial work on it. Michael Arndt worked on a treatment and script for what was becoming the J.J. Arbams-directed movie before leaving it over a year after commencing on it. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over the script-writing duties.
