The Walt Disney Company has confirmed that production is underway on Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales as well as announcing a brief synopsis of the most anticipated film. Village Roadshow Studios is filming on location at Queensland, Australia.
Starring Johnny Depp as a down on his luck Captain Jack Sparrow, we find that Captain Jack must face his one time nemesis Captain Salazar portrayed by Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall). Salazar commands a group of dead ghost pirates who are determined to kill every living pirate at sea. If Captain Jack wants to escape the Devil’s Triangle alive, he must seek out the powerful artifact known as the Trident of Poseidon. The possessor of this Trident has total command of the seas, thus the upper hand in a battle of the pirates.
Depp is joined by an amazing supporting cast this time around, notably Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner, Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent, The Giver) and Golshifteh Farahani (Exodus: Gods and Kings). Not only that, we will also see some familiar characters returning in this next installment. Geoffrey Rush will return as Barbarossa, Kevin R. McNally will reprise his role as Joshamee Gibbs and Stephen Graham will revive Scrum. With a cast such as this we are in for a film that will be warranting of some tales for years to come.
This next chapter in the life of Captain Jack Sparrow was written by Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me if You Can, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the film will also be directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is to be released on July 7, 2017. It is unclear how long production is scheduled to last, but rest assured this film will hit the box office with a splash.
