Way back in the 70’s, a duo by the name of Sid and Marty Krofft dominated children’s television by creating variety shows featuring quirky heroes. While most today won’t even remember those times, those that do know of the Krofft Supershow, a program, similar to the Adult Swim block on Cartoon Network that had short, 10-15 minute serial productions, of which the most familiar is Land of the Lost, the 2009 film remake starring Will Ferrell.
One of the shows, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, aired a short run of 16 12-minute episodes on the supershow starring Deidre Hall, Judy Strangis and Norman Alden. Here’s the intro for the old show:
Fast forward to now, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl has been slated for a remake which is filming now. YouTube sensations Grace Helbig (who has also been seen on G4’s Attack on the Show and a string of commercials and Hannah Hart, best known for her Drunk Kitchen show on YouTube.
Personally, I thought the old Electra Woman and Dyna Girl show wasn’t spectacular; it was a real cheesy production that had far less of a budget than the 1960’s Batman and just slightly more than a typical SNL skit. But an image has surfaced showing the duo in their new outfits. Word has it that the story involves the duo moving from Akron to Los Angeles to make it big in the crime fighting world, only to face civil fighting amongst other vigilantes, who are apparently “saturating the market”.
While I’m not a big fan of Sid and Marty Krofft, I’m really exited about this reboot.
