While the release date was pushed back, filming on the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII is now underway. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that filming on Episode VIII has begun filming with Rian Johnson behind the helm.
As we all know, some filming has started when reports came in that Johnson and Mark Hamill were on location of Skellig Michael Island, the temple where Luke is hiding at the end of The Force Awakens.
Here’s what Iger had to say about the upcoming sequel beginning filming:
“There is no better way to propel this franchise into the future than producing quality products. Filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII, the next chapter of the legendary saga, has just commenced and it will be in theaters December 2017. And production of Episode IX, a 2019 release, has also begun.”
