Crimson Peak Blu-ray Review: Crimson Fleek!

Guillermo del Toro’s gothic horror movie uses Blu-ray technology to enhance the visuals of the story. The film is set in the past, in a remote mansion so a lot of what’s scary about that is the atmosphere. The Blu-ray captures color and tone in a way that uniquely represents another world in another time.

The film’s heroine, Mia Wasikowska, comes into sharp focus in the snow. Lavish costumes and sets, along with calculated lighting schemes, color the frame in solid hues. Against that, sinewy ghosts and bloody murders give you a stark jolt. You also see a lot of detail in the sets, either the colonial dirt town or the red clay ground with all the carriage tracks visible in sharp detail.

The Blu-ray is packed with bonus features too, mostly featuring interviews with del Toro and cast articulating the themes and genres of the film. You could say this Blu-ray is on crimson fleek!
