The Star Wars BOYCOTT was a real thing y’all! And ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ is the fun little film that suffered because of it. That Star Wars movie flopped so big they heard the splash in a galaxy far far away. And it’s too bad too, because Solo was pretty darn enjoyable. But numbers don’t lie. ‘Rogue One’ made over a Billion dollars worldwide, while ‘Solo’ pulled in less than 400 Million dollars worldwide. And to add insult to injury, ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ cost about $250 Million to make. Making it the most expensive Star Wars movie to date.
So why did hardcore Star Wars fans Boycott their beloved franchise? Well a huge chunk of those fans passionately hated ‘The Last Jedi’ and wanted to make a statement. So they didn’t rush out to see Solo in theaters. Plus, Solo came out less than six months after The Last Jedi. Which wasn’t enough time for disgruntled fans to forgive and forget. And though Disney refuses to acknowledge that there was a boycott. I think the fans hit Disney right where it hurts, right in the pocket book. Because now comes the news that fan-favorite Billy D. Williams will be returning as Lando Calrissian.
YEP! LANDO CALRISSIAN IS BACK Y’ALL! But is it a case of too-little-too-late? Luke and Han have already gone on to meet their moviemaker, and Carrie Fisher passed away in real life. So there’s no chance for an old school intergalactic reunion. So I guess Lando and Chewie will re-unite, and we’ll just have to be satisfied with that. But can Star Wars bounce back from this? Can Billy D. save the franchise? Maybe, if the Force is with us. But we’ll just have to wait and see what JJ Abrams comes up with. But I think, if episode nine is a great movie, Star Wars will be back on track. But if it isn’t a great movie, they’ll have to work a lot harder to win back our trust. So no pressure Abrams, the future of Star Wars is in your hands.
LAST WORD: If you boycotted Solo, check it out on Blu Ray or Dvd. It’s not epic, but it’s a heck of a lot of fun.
