I love ‘The Lion King’, like most people do, but I’m still a little nervous about this new interpretation. The star power behind the vocals is amazing, there’s no denying that. But seeing these photo-real looking animals talk and sing, still feels a little off to me, like the voices aren’t actually coming from the animals. And the way their mouths move, tell me that’s not a little weird. But the visuals look great, and the CGI animals look really real, so maybe I’ll get used to the whole talking/singing thing, once I see the new film.
Also, aren’t they rushing these films out pretty fast? So far this year, which is only half over, we’ve seen Dumbo, Aladdin, Toy Story 4, and now The Lion King. They’re practically tripping over each other at the box office. There’s talk of ‘superhero fatigue’, what about ‘Disney fatigue’? Maybe the reason Toy Story 4 isn’t the money-making-monster they expected, is because families are still watching Aladdin in theaters. And when The Lion King comes out, Toy Story 4 AND Aladdin will still be in theaters too, making Disney films their own worst competition.
