TOO SOON? Didn’t they just wrap ‘Gotham’. Now comes news of ‘Gotham Central‘ (title subject to change), coming to HBO MAX. But this is going to be a new Gotham City Centric serie, based on the bat-world created in the new Matt Reeves movie, THE BATMAN. Terence Winter, who created the series ‘Boardwalk Empire’, will run the show. And Jeffrey Wright will be this show’s Jim Gordon.
So the movie hasn’t even dropped a trailer yet, and it’s getting a streaming service series? I guess that’s how things work now. And by the way, why drop this news now, instead of at the big DC FANDOME event in August? And is Batman even going to appear in this new The Batman-inspired series?
HBO Max had this to say in a THR interview… the series “set in the world Reeves is creating for The Batman feature film and will build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series provides an unprecedented opportunity to extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham.”
“This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford,” said Reeves in a statement. “And getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream.”
