According to Variety, the new 10-episode series based on the DC Comics heroes known as Green Lanterns, will not feature Hal Jordan or John Stewart, the most well known pair. What the heck?! The show got a greenlight without the two fan favorites. What world am I living in?
Instead, the show will feature Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Alan Scott — Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man. Along with galactic fan favorites; Sinestro and Kilowog. So at least there’s that. And since it’s on HBO:Max, I guess Guy Gardner will be the foul-mouthed favorite.
The series will be co-written and executive produced by Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim. With Seth Grahame-Smith serving as showrunner. He wrote “The Lego Batman Movie”, which was funny, and “Dark Shadows”, which was awful.
DC fans will no doubt already be very familiar with Guggenheim, who co-created and served as showrunner on the hit CW series “Arrow” as well as “Legends of Tomorrow.” He also co-wrote the 2011 “Green Lantern” film starring Ryan Reynolds. So lets see if this is another ‘Swing and a Miss’, or an HBO Home Run.
To be honest, I was excited for this show when it was first announced. But now, given these revelations, I’ve shifted down into ‘wait-and-see’ mode.
