Looper 4K Review: Future 4K

4K is still new enough that relatively recent films may just now make their debut in this high quality home video format. Sony remastered Looper in 4K for its 10th anniversary and it looks great.

Some people had a problem with Joseph Gordon Levitt wearing prosthetic makeup to look like a young Bruce Willis. I think the 4K shows just how subtle the makeup is. It’s Gordon-Levitt’s mannerisms that really sell the character.

The future of Looper is full of industrial spaces and sleek future cities that look sharp and gritty in 4K. The Kansas farm where the middle of the movie takes place provides a nice contrast with bright natural light and color.

Looper was still shot on film in 2012 so having a recent film still look like film stands out. Only Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, Spielberg and a few others can boast that. Rian Johnson directs Looper’s frames with care and intention, so they’re not just shot out to cut together.
