The year was 2012. Director / Creator George Lucas just signed a $4 billion dollar deal relinquishing all rights to the STAR WARS franchise including future projects that Lucas had in mind. Specifically STAR WARS episodes 7,8,9,10,11,&12. But hyperspace into the future of 2015, (3) years later after filming for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, wrapped up it’s filming, we find out that Lucas’s original story for episode (7) was not going to be used after Disney reviewed its possibilities.
In a interview with CinemaBlend, to promote his movie “Strange Magic” the father of George Lucas had this to say when asked about STAR WARS.
Lucas: “The ones that I sold to Disney, they came up to the decision that they didn’t really want to do those. So they made up their own. So it’s not the ones that I originally wrote, on screen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens
As it turns out, Disney and J.J. Abrams didn’t use Lucas’ treatment ideas for the current script. They did how ever use the idea of Lucas brining back actor Mark Hamill about the possibility of Jedi Luke Skywalker extending his adventures by becoming an Obi Won type wise Jedi.
Maybe in the far, far away future, Disney may ask Lucas to involve himself in a cameo director role in further Star Wars films after STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Only those in Disney that have the Force strong in them can see the future!
