Here’s your recap within a recap: Felicity found out that Oliver had a son that he never told her about, and she called off the wedding, and the entire relationship, returning the engagement ring. Oh, and now she can walk again too. THAT should be the big news in Star City this week. They found a relatively easy way to cure permanent paralysis. But instead, we skip over that and deal with broken hearts. Oliver and Felicity are obviously both broken hearted this week, though they react to it in different ways. But the villainous ‘Cupid’ is broken hearted too. And when Cupid gives up on love, she starts killing everybody else still in love. I know that’s a bit of an overreaction, but she’s a dangerous psychopath, what do you expect?
Cupid starts kidnapping and killing famous celebrity couples. I guess to make a point about how love kills. They get an arrow through the heart. This is a gruesome episode. Captain Lance calls in team Arrow, since they know the suspect, and they’re on the case. All except Black Canary, she’s stuck at her day job. She’s got to convince a judge that they have enough evidence to hold Damien Darhk and put him on trial. He was arrested last episode when they broke his totem and took away his powers. But it’s tough going, because they really don’t have enough real evidence against him. The Arrow can’t testify, because he’s a vigilante acting outside the law. And, he’d have to come out as Oliver Queen. Diggle tries to testify, because Darhk did kidnap him, but as a part of Team Arrow, he’s got too many things going on that he can’t come clean about. So Darhk’s defense discredits him on the stand. The only person who doesn’t wear a mask that can testify is Captain Lance. But if he does, he’ll lose his job and probably go to jail. To protect Laurel, Captain Lance actually helped Darhk when he first appeared on the scene.
Felicity is obviously still upset, and is a bit snarky. But she agrees to help Oliver, Diggle, and Speedy catch Cupid. With her help, they find her lair. It’s a wedding dress warehouse. How Apropos! And they find newspaper clippings of the people she’s killed, and plans to kill. And Mayoral Candidate Oliver Queen is on the list, with his fiancée Felicity Smoak. So despite Felicity’s reservations, they plan a fake impromptu wedding, to set a trap for Cupid. Thea leaks the fake wedding info to the press, and the trap is set. Oliver and Felicity meet at a chapel in their tux and gown, while Diggle and Speedy watch for Cupid. To make everything look real, in case Cupid is watching, they have a realistic faux ceremony. And this is Oliver’s chance to tell Felicity how he feels, in hopes of winning her back. His vows are loving, apologetic, and straight from the heart. As are hers. But before you can say ‘reconciliation’, Cupid shows up, and the team has to take her down. Though even Cupid was moved by the couple’s words of love.
Later, back at the Arrow Cave, Oliver and Felicity have a talk. And unfortunately for Oliver, Felicity isn’t ready to rekindle the romance. She admits to loving Oliver, but doesn’t think they could ever have a life together. So not even cupid could bring them back together. How sad. But on the bright side, Captain Lance’s testimony is strong enough to prove to the Judge that a trail is warranted. So Damian Darhk is sent to jail, without bail, to await his day in court. But it’s a good-news-bad-news thing, because Captain Lance gets suspended due to his testimony, and he could still go to jail. STAY TUNED!!!!
SIDE NOTE: Damian Darhk smuggled one thing into the slammer with him, his wedding ring. Does that indicate that his wife might have a plan to break him out, or is she the real big bad that is yet to be revealed? And if Captain Lance’s testimony is the one thing that the trial hinges on, is his life in danger? Is his body in the anonymous grave that they’ve tortured us with all season?
