Blinded By the Light Blu-Ray Review
Blinded By the Light thrived at Sundance where it landed a distribution deal for a summer release through Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema. It’s a harder sell at the box office where franchises rules but this is the type of movie that’s worth discovering. If you missed it in theaters, Blinded By the Light is now on Blu-ray.
Based on Safraz Manzoor’s autobiography, the film changes his name to Javed (Viveik Kaira). Javed is still a Bristih Pakistani teen in the ‘80s who discovers Bruce Springsteen music and it changes his life. The film really captures the power music can have and champions giving underrepresented voices a chance to be heard. It also effectively captures the generation gap between Javed and his father Malik (Kulvinder Ghir).
Bonus features on Blinded By the Light are, uh, light. They do discuss why the adaptation of Manzoor’s book changed names and shows video of the real Manzoor meeting Springsteen.
