John Cena will portray Peacemaker in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. A character Cena called a “douchey Captain America.” And now Cena, and director James Gunn, will re-team for an eight-episode Peacemaker series. Take that Marvel! James Gunn won’t be back for the third Guardians Of The Galaxy until after he’s done with the new HBO Max series.
Here’s how James Gunn describes the series…
“Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag,” said Gunn in a statement. “I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”
Warner Bros. must be pretty confident in this Suicide Squad semi-sequal to greenlight a series before the film has even been released. But I guess they had to move fast to get it done with James Gunn as writer/director, before he has to move on to his Marvel obligations.
