First Jared Leto’s Joker is in it, and now Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke gets new scenes! What is going on here?! The so-called ‘Snyder cut’ that fans were caterwauling about for years, which was supposedly ready to roll out into theaters after a few minor tweaks, wasn’t a real thing at all.
The Snyder cut on HBO Max, which is more of a Justice league re-do, is adding additional scenes, characters, story elements, special effects, and a new score. All for about, what’s reported to be, 60+ million dollars.
And if you STILL think the Snyder cut was a real thing, here’s what HBO Max boss Bob Greenblatt had to say when HBO Max first decided to greenlight the project …
“It’s been months of discussions with Zack and the producers to figure out how to do it,” Greenblatt told the Recode Media Podcast…
“It isn’t as easy as going into the vault and there’s a Snyder Cut there to put out,” Greenblatt said. “It does not exist. Zack is building it and it’s complex.”
Greenblatt calls it “a radical rethinking of [Justice League] and it’s complicated and wildly expensive.”
Original reports stated the cost of the Snyder Cut was somewhere in the region of $30 million. Greenblatt’s response? “I wish it was just $30m and stop there!”
LAST WORD: As a DC Fanatic, I am over-the-moon excited about getting Justice League 2.0. Because, for the most part, I was always a Zach Snyder fan. So I’m glad he gets a second swing at bat. But this is way more than a cobbled-together cut of existing footage. It’s something new, and hopefully glorious. #HenryCavillSuperman
