‘NAOMI’ IS A GONE GIRL / CANCELLED BY THE CW
THE CW appears to be cleaning house y’all. Naomi was cancelled today, along with the 4400, Roswell, Dynasty, and Charmed. And a few weeks ago, Legends Of Tomorrow and Batwoman also got the ax! Leaving Stargirl the only other CW superhero show in limbo.
The Flash, along with Superman & Lois, are the only Arrow-verse alums still officially alive and kicking, as both shows received early renewals for next season. But my guess is that the impending sale of the CW probably has a lot to do with the cancellations, along with the fact that the shows cancelled weren’t ratings giants.
Listen, I watched the first five episodes of Ava Duvernay’s Naomi, to give it a chance, but the show started slow and seemed content to stay that way. So I gave up, as many seemed to do based on the ratings slump. Maybe, as a show based on a new DC Comics hero with no brand recognition, they should have put their best foot forward from the gate, to hook viewers in. But hindsight is 20/20, and the show is officially gone with the wind.
And as for Stargirl, the third season hasn’t even aired yet, so maybe they’re waiting to see how it does before they decide to renew or pull the plug…
Hmmm! Did anyone else notice that if Stargirl goes away, every female lead superhero series will be gone, leaving only the guys to carry the load. And with Batwoman, Legends, Naomi, and Supergirl gone, also gonefrom the CW Superhero line-up is diversity and LGBTQ representation. Shhhhhh! Don’t tell anybody.
