Beverly Hills Cop II 4K UHD: The Heat Is In 4K
A lot of the classic Tony Scott movies came out on 4K before I got my setup. So I missed Top Gun and Days of Thunder, although Paramount+ has the Top Gun 4K which looks great. The new release of Beverly Hills Cop II in 4K is fun though.
That Tony Scott saturated look is well preserved, although not quite as sharply as on Top Gun. Just wait until they get to Man on Fire or Domino in 4K. The grainy film look is authentic, like looking through an ‘80s smoke-filled haze whether Axel Foley is in police stations, the swank gun club the gratuitous strip club scene.
There are so many sunrize shots in Beverly Hills Cop II it looks like nothing in the movie happened after 9AM. Some color details that really pop in 4K are Brigitte Nielsen’s red lipstick and Axel’s shiny, red Ferrari.
The audio is faithful to the 1987 stereo mix. There are no real rear sound effects, but the musical score and soundtrack rock.
