Grease 2 Blu-ray Rides Cool in HD
Grease 2 finally gets HD respect with its first ever Blu-ray release for the film’s 40th anniversary. VHS kids were among the first to discover Grease 2 was a fun twist on the T-Birds and Pink Girls. DVD may have been the first time they ever got to see the full movie in widescreen.
Now on Blu-ray, you can see all the choreography in sharp widescreen. The look of Grease 2 matches its predecessor with a bright, colorful ensemble cast. Every frame is full of pink cars and jackets, red lettermen jackets, cheerleaders, or full classrooms of multicolored ‘50s wardrobe.
The high school musical sequence gives you even more colorful costumes, especially the M.C.’s green suit. After that there’s a whole luau to close the movie.
For fans of the original music in Grease 2, much of the surround sound is devoted to backing accompaniment. The digital mix is faithful to the original stereo, but with 5.1 flourishes where they make sense. For example, the bowling alley fills the room with ambiance too.
