The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent 4K UHD Has More Nicolas Cage
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent may not have been the ultimate Nicolas Cage movie. It would be hard to top Vampire’s Kiss or Face/Off, but it was a fun celebration of all the things that make Cage one of the greatest actors ever. Now on home video, the 4K UHD release of Massive Talent gives you even more Cage.
The film’s setting in Mallorca looks gorgeous in 4K, even if much of it was shot in Croatia and Hungary. Surround sound will fill your room, too. It’s mostly the score, but a few action sounds like vehicle vrooms circle you, too. Crashes and gunshots stay pretty front focused.
Five minutes of deleted scenes include more references to Cage movies and a bit more Tiffany Haddish action. But the piece de resistance is a deleted Nicky scene. Nick faces off with Nicky in a Dr. Caligari inspired sequence that pays homage to more of his movies.
Massive Talent is loaded with bonus features like all DVDs used to be. Cage is featured prominently in all of them, very engaged with the process. Behind-the-scenes shots make it look like Nicky is mostly makeup, though surely enhanced with CGI. Cage is also engaged in the video of the SXSW festival Q&A, wearing a fabulous plaid suit which he addresses with the audience in Austin.
