APPLE TV+: This is Will Smith’s first big project since the Oscar slap. So it will be interesting to see if there is any box office backlash from it. Emancipation Is being released in theaters in December, before going to Apple TV, for Oscar consideration. Which is ironic, since Will Smith won’t be able to receive an Academy Award at the ceremony because of the slap. If he were to be nominated and win. But the film, and Smith’s performance, look powerful. Which may be enough to make people forgive and forget.
My only problem with films like this is that they are ‘INSPIRED’ by a true story, which means they can take whatever liberties they want to make aspects of a ’TRUE’ story more cinematic. which i don’t think is a good thing. Because it makes a ’true’ story less true… (Check out the alligator sequence. did that really happen as depicted?)
