SHAZAM 2: DIRECTOR QUITS FRANCHISE AFTER DISMAL OPENING WEEKEND AND BAD REVIEWS
DC STUDIOS: Director David F. Sandberg had this to say about his film, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and it’s Rotten Tomatoes Score, which is rotten at 52% while the first movie was fresh at 90%… and the Audience Score is at 88%, higher than the first movie’s 82%.
“On Rotten Tomatoes I just got my lowest critic score and my highest audience score on the same film,” tweeted Sandberg. “I wasn’t expecting a repeat of the first movie critically but I was still a little surprised because I think it’s a good film. Oh well.” (But to be blunt, the 2nd film’s ‘high’ audience score came from a pretty small audience. Nobody went to see this opening weekend)
Shazam 2’ had a disastrous weekend debut, making 44% less than his first Shazam film. So guess what? Sandberg announced that he’s done with superheroes. WHAT, WHAT!
“As I’ve been saying for a while now I’m very eager to go back to horror (as well as trying some new things). After six years of Shazam I’m definitely done with superheroes for now,” Sandberg tweeted.
YIKES! Talk about blindsiding your own movie. This is a heck of an announcement to make when your film is still in theaters. I mean, it isn’t dead yet, it has only been out one weekend. But if he’s already kicking his franchise to the curb, what chance does the movie have?
