’SUPER MARIO BROS’ FILM RAKES IN $92+ MILLION ITS SECOND WEEKEND
“LETS A GO!” Super Mario Bros just powered up, grossing a massive $92.5 million in its second weekend of play at the North American box office. Which was notably more than expected, representing a drop of just 37%, according to final numbers released Monday. That’s up from Sunday’s already spectacular estimate of $87 million. Making this the biggest second weekend ever for an animated film after surpassing Frozen 2 ($86 million).
And today, Monday, Super Mario Bros passed $700 Million worldwide, and is sprinting toward the billion dollar goal and beyond. Silencing the flawed film critics who poo-pooed the film out of the gate. Shame on you guys!
But that’s not all! The Super Mario Bros film also earned another gold star, as it became the biggest video-game inspired film EVER, beating the previous record holder, Detective Pikachu, by $200 Million and counting… CONGRATS TO UNIVERSAL/ILLUMINATION AND NINTENDO!!!
